London W4 to SW1

This page: In the grand tradition of Eek's awesome ride to work threads I thought I'd do a London one. There are lots of photos and the quality isn't great as it's all coming out of an iPhone.

The bike: Trek 8500, stock for the most part, still going strong after 8 years of moderate care. The main reason I'm rocking those silly tires is to accommodate a child seat and 10kg of cuteness on the weekend. They also come in handy twice a year when it snows in London, as grit is pretty much non-existent here.

01

And we're off.

02

Heading towards the river, passing by Chiswick House.

03

Straight into this nifty little shortcut that leads...

04

... right through Chiswick's old cemetery...

05

... and out onto St Nicholas church.

06

Round the church and the start of Chiswick Mall.

07

I love these houses.

08

The back of Fuller's brewery.

09

Heading east along the river.

10

So tempted to just stop, and spend the day there.

11

Leaving Chiswick and entering Hammersmith.

12

Edward Johnston woz here.

13

High tide. And ducks.

14

Looking east, with Hammersmith bridge at the top right.

15

The Old Ship. Great pub on the river.

16

The end of Hammersmith mall.

17

Speeding up...

18

... getting to Hammersmith bridge...

19

... up onto Hammersmith roundabout...

20

... and into early morning traffic.

21

Continuing eastward, passing through Olympia...

22

... and High Street Kensington.

23

"That's no moon..." a.k.a. Northcliffe House, Daily Mail HQ.

24

Kensington Palace Gardens.

25

Kensington Gardens.

26

Joining fellow commuters as I'm about to get into Hyde Park.

27

Past the Albert Hall...

28

... downhill alongside the Barracks...

29

...and back up towards Hyde Park Corner. This is the only hilly bit on the way.

30

Waiting at the light at Hyde Park Corner, for my daily dose of carbon monoxyde.

31

Past the roundabout and down through St James's Park.

32

@Liz 2.0.

33

The fine Victoria St architecture beckons!

34

Almost there.

35

Unlike Victoria St, there's never any traffic along Buckingham Gate at this time.

36

Victoria Street and the office.

37

Made it.

38

"That'll do bike, that'll do."
